Calories

High levels of support for including calorie information on alcoholic drinks were reported in our survey. Respondents generally overestimated the number of calories in both food and alcohol. On average, calorie estimates were one and a half times larger than the actual values in most alcoholic drinks (average estimates for a pint of beer are shown below). We want to know what impact accurate calorie labelling would have on drinking.

  1. I think more calorie information would be likely to reduce alcohol consumption in many who watch their weight or go to the gym a lot, there’s a surprisingly high number of calories in beer. However, it may simply result in a change of which drink is more regularly consumed by that individual.
